Ya Boy Kongming! Is Getting A Live-Action Drama

Fans of the popular manga series “Ya Boy Kongming!” will be thrilled to know that the Ya Boy Kongming! manga is being adapted into a live-action drama with plans for the series to premiere on Fuji TV in Japan this fall.

Osamu Mukai will be playing Zhuge Kongming, and he had this to say about the role:

“It may be difficult to imagine given that it is a reincarnation story and the catchy title ‘Paripi Koumei,’ but the original manga and script depict a story with a very strong core.” The development of a diva into a professional artist is linked to the development of Kongming’s master during the Three Kingdoms period battles. I also believe that by listening to music throughout the drama, viewers will rediscover the power of music. I hope the music is enjoyable to the viewers.”

The Ya Boy Kongming! manga, written by Yuuto Yotsuba and illustrated by Ryou Ogawa, debuted in 2019 and currently has 13 tankoubon volumes as of April 2023. Before being moved to Weekly Young Magazine, the manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Comic Days app/website. It is released under the Young Magazine Comics imprint.

Kodansha USA describes the plot as:

Kongming, the General of the Three Kingdoms, had struggled his entire life, facing countless battles that shaped him into the accomplished strategist he was. On his deathbed, all he wanted was to be reborn into a peaceful world…and was whisked away to the modern-day party capital, Tokyo! Can even Kongming, a brilliant strategist, adapt to the wild beats and even wilder party people?!

Ya Boy Kongming! previously inspired a TV anime adaptation directed by Osamu Honma (the director of The Aquatope on White Sand episode) and produced by P.A.WORKS. The anime, which aired from April to June 2022, was notable for its opening animation sequence as well as the opening song “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” a cover of the Hungarian song “Bulikirály.”
