A live-action adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man has surfaced online, but it is not what anime fans expected it to be.
According to the Twitter account Anime News & Facts, Japan has created an 18+ Chainsaw Man live-action adaptation. The tweet also included a poster for the project, which depicts Makima, Power, and Reze in manga/anime-inspired costumes, looking into the camera as a trio.
Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto is a series known for pushing the boundaries of its intimate content. Before the manga’s sixth volume was released in Indonesia, the publisher had to modify the cover art, with the image of Reze in the nude updated to put her in clothing. Sexuality plays a significant role in the plot, inspiring the series’ dark reputation (along with its excessive violence) and propelling it into the “Dark Trio” of Shonen alongside Hell’s Paradise and Jujutsu Kaisen, both of which are currently on hiatus.
Chainsaw Man Synopsis:
Denji is a destitute young man living in a world inhabited by bloodthirsty monsters known as Devils. One day, he befriends Pochita, a Devil dog-thing with a literal chainsaw. If this wasn’t strange enough, Denji is murdered by the Yakuza, and Pochita fuses with his soul to save his life. This transforms Denji into the Chainsaw Man.
Makima quickly recruits him after his transformation to join the Public Safety Devil Hunters, who are under threat of extinction now that he is technically a Devil. Denji struggles to define his dreams and form meaningful relationships while killing Devils and working alongside other eccentric Devil Hunters for the first time in his life.
Studio Mappa adapted the manga into a popular anime series in 2022, with the series garnering attention for its strong animation. Fujimoto’s manga is currently in its second installment, with the next chapter, Chapter 128, set to be released on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.
